The Waiting Game for Spring 2012 CTMH Treasures

I know some of my blogging friends and my Close to My Heart consultant friends were curious about my cardstock organizing project I mentioned earlier in the week. I finished that up a couple of days ago. Hurray! However, since that project I've continued on down the organizing path as I await the arrival of my goodies from the new Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book.

My dear daughter is sharing a birthday party with her good friends who are also January babies. They are having a "Walking in a Glitter Wonderland" theme party. Oh my is our basement ever covered in glitter right now. I cringe at the thought of the after-party clean up.

We started cleaning and organizing our basement family room on New Year's Day in preparation for this big party and it's been kind of addictive. Today when I headed out to pick up birthday party rations for sixteen teenage guests, I stopped at a couple of stores and also managed to pick up some organizing totes and drawer storage. I figured a little distraction from all of the party fun was just the thing for my evening plans. LOL

While some got their party on, I got my clean on...

So, that was my project I completed earlier this week. Below you can see what I accomplished this evening during my cleaning party. This is my upstairs crafting space now clean, organized, and ready for my Spring/Summer 2012 Idea Book goodies to arrive:

A great step in my ongoing plan to gain control of my crafting supplies! I hope that perhaps this will inspire you to get organized for a great new year of scrapbooking, stamping, and papercrafting fun!

Next up is the sorting and reorganizing of 500-600 (or maybe even more than that) Close to My Heart My Acrylix stamp sets down in my basement craft room!!! Wish my luck!

My husband likes to tease me that he's sure they are never read. Personally, I enjoy reading the ones that we receive each year from family and friends.

I must share that I was inspired by Allisa's card she posted on her blog. I love her great work! Thanks, Allisa! Also, the card layout came from Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge.

The Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge was such a wonderful timesaver for me in creating close to 100 cards. I was so thankful to be able to make a card with so many layers and shapes with the help of my Cricut and this terrific cartridge. Time to Let It Snow!

So, I will be the first to admit that I have been enjoying the milder weather. However, we are getting awfully close to Christmas with no snow here. Last weekend I taught my 5th annual Christmas card workshop. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting the cards we created. I used the Wishes cardmaking program and one of the three card workshop templates. I created 20 cards from just a few sheets of patterned paper, cardstock, and card bases.

It's a cute little 3" x 6" card made as one of my contributions to the fun card swap I do with a terrific bunch of fellow Close to My Heart consultants. On a Personal Note: Diary of Freshman Year Move In

It's been a busy week for our household. Our oldest daughter is getting ready to start her freshman year at college. We spent three days packing her up, moving her in, stocking her dorm room, and heading, reluctantly, back home.

Here are a few pictures of our adventure. I must say that moving our daughter seemed to be as busy and involved as did moving our twin boys to two separate colleges five years ago! LOL

Here's how the big event went for the Ross family:

And, if you can believe it, some things were still forgotten and I have already sent out my first official care package to our girl yesterday. Thank goodness we will be seeing her again in just three weeks. We'll see just how much more stuff she "needs" by then!

So, I set a goal to create a card using each of the new 8 paper packets in the Autumn/Winter 2011 Idea Book from Close to My Heart. I wanted to show off the Pair-a-Phrase bonus double stamp set that is featured as the National Stamping Month celebration. I love how we have the 1/2" border strips on our B & T papers which gives you a great border accent! On this card I used the border strip, but I did cut along the scallop to fancy it up a bit. I made the choice not to color the bicycle image as I liked the simpler, more elegant look that the Roxie paper packet lends to the total effect. I'd love to hear your opinion.

Just a quick blog post to say I am busily creating some fun artwork in preparation for an upcoming blog hop, three swaps, a crop, and a workshop. Whew! I need to keep those a secret for just a wee bit longer. So, in the meantime, here are a couple of photos of some of my favorite stops on last month's vacation.

Above is a shot taken by my husband while we were atop Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Maine. I was reminded of these particular photos because of Martha Stewart recent 70th birthday celebration mentioned in a People magazine article that she had at her home located on Mount Desert Island. We got a glimpse of her gorgeous home from our tour around the islands to see the lighthouses of the area.

Here are some of those shots:

Double Day of Fun

This weekend we celebrated our twins' birthday. It was a great family party. Here you can see our daughter's gifts to her brothers. She loves to bake and has a real talent for it too. She made them each their favorite cakes completely from scratch. Here is one comical photo of the blowing out of the candles. David missed one candle but Adam pitched in and took care of that for his brother, much to David's surprise. Some things never change! LOL

Sneak Peeks of a Summer Vacation...

I am back to the blogging world from the lovely land of vacation. I've been away on a family road trip for a couple of great, relaxing weeks with dear hubby and the female portion of our four kiddos. Now, I won't sugarcoat my story. We had our moments of short tempers for sure given the fact that we put on a good deal more than 3,000 miles in on our road trip. But, I am here to attest to the fact that we survived and lived to tell some tales. LOL

I have some random shots from several hundred photos taken from our trip that lead us from Michigan into Canada with stops in London, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, and Montreal. We then moved on to a beautiful stay in Bar Harbor, Maine. We followed that up with stops in Boston, Philadelphia, and Gettysburg.

So, here we go:

As you can see we fit a great amount of wonderful cities into one big trip. We each had a favorite. Our history junkie was just enthralled with Boston, Philadelphia, and Gettysburg, especially. The beauty of Maine was amazing! We enjoyed a nice visit in Ottawa with our Canadian side of the family, my Dad, step-mom, and nephew. So, all in all, well worth all those miles!

Now, I sit and wait for all of the exciting news to come from the Close to My Heart Convention going on now at the "happiest place on earth" in Disneyland. I can hardly wait to hear and see all of the great scrapbooking, cardmaking, stamping supplies debuting officially on August 1st in the Autumn & Winter 2011 Idea Book!

Gearing up

So much to do yet and the time is dwindling as we get ready for another great summer vacation! I think all of the reservations are made, itinerary is set, and the packing is in full swing.

This afternoon, hubby and I were out running those important, last minute errands. One of our stops was our friendly Verizon store to check on our coverage while in Canada for part of our trip. What started out as a quick visit for some information turned into a two-hour adventure that included a new Droid for someone and ended with a new Samsung Galaxy Tab for someone else. Well, let me tell you, I am so excited to have these little gems with us on the road!

Now, I imagine this might be blase and old hat for some of you, but I am a creature habit who often balks at change. That is part of why only one of us left the store with a Droid. I insist on having a keyboard that is not just touchscreen for my phone use. LOL

However, for someone who loves to read voraciously like I do, I have often considered if I could go the way of the Kindle and other such reading devices. Well, when I saw all the features that this little gadget had to offer, I was over the moon! Add to that they gave us a great deal too! I am ready to load up the books and I am good to go on vacation. Who needs anything more???

I would also like to share another of Rebekah's pretty card creations. This is one of the 20 or so Thank You cards she has made so far to send out to says "Thanks" for her graduation gifts:

It's been a real treat to see her take such pride in her cardmaking. She is a talented artist in other areas, but has not been into my passion for scrapbooking and cardmaking. However, lately she has really been excited about her cards. Gotta love that!

A Day at the Farm

The New Grad

A big weekend on the homefront with our oldest daughter's high school graduation. We had beautiful weather for both the open house and for the graduation ceremony too. Family came from the north and the south and Rebekah's dear friends made her day extra special too.

The motto for my daughter's senior class, who will graduate on Sunday, comes from the book, "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" by Dr. Seuss. It goes like this: "Be who you are and say what you will, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

Can I tell you that I love this quote?!? Well, I do. What a wonderfully freeing thought for young people to allow themselves to be their own unique selves without the need to conform to peer pressure. I believe it allows for the freedom for creativity and for being comfortable in your own skin.

My dear daughter is a huge fan of Dr. Seuss. She was thrilled when she first learned that Dr. Seuss was chosen for this class motto. Let me tell you she is now and has always been an independent thinker. One of her first sentences was, "All by myself!" She hates to ask for help and loves to be self-sufficient. I believe she is going to use that to her advantage to do amazing things when she heads off to college in the fall.

In case you have been wondering what I have been up to that has decreased my posting frequency, we've been busy between illness, milestone birthday celebrations, graduation preparations, and much more.

Warning: Proud Mom brag ahead!!!

We had the pleasure of attending our girls' high school annual awards assembly tonight. Our dear daughter who will be graduating soon was recognized as an upcoming summa cum laude graduate AND as a President's Academic Excellence Award recipient. She was so very proud to be recognized by our President for her hard work!

We finally have mailed out invitations to graduation and to her open house celebration! Whew!

I have been working on a handmade photo collage as well. Do you know how hard it is to narrow down 18 years of a beautiful child's life into a collage to fit a 20" x 24" frame? LOL

So, all of that keeping us hopping, plus the everyday life of work, school, and laundry, I don't have much in the way of new art to share.

Don't you just love how great the striped paper works for the upholstery of this easy chair?

I got to try my hand at this fun technique to create the flower shown here. I punched 6 scallop circles, spritzed them with water, crumpled them tightly, opened them up, layered the circles, and placed a brad through the center. Then, I scrunched up the circles again. I was pretty pleased with how easy these type of flowers are to make.

Close to My Heart News: Hope For Japan

The following news was just released today via Jeanette Lynton's blog and is quoted below:

The Fanfare Continues: Summer Time

Let's just say that I am dreaming of Summer Time when the living is easy AND WARM! LOL This is March 22nd and we are under a Winter Weather Advisory here in Michigan. Seriously?!? I know. I know. It's Michigan, what am I expecting? A little sunshine and no more snow, to be completely honest.

So, enough of the complaining rant about the weather. It could be worse. Here is a look at another of the layouts I will be teaching on Sunday to my scrapbooking class:

I was notorious for the photos where someone's head was cut off in our photos. Thank goodness for digital and photo-editing software! Such a better quality of photos to choose from as our kids got older!

Every month for the close to four years now, I've been teaching a scrapbooking workshop to some amazing ladies. With the help of Close to My Heart, who continues to make it "Faster. Simpler. Easier." to get beautiful pages made every single month, I get to play with the best in clear My Acrylix stamps, beautiful papers, and wonderful embellishments. In the fall of 2008, CTMH introduced their "Workshops on the Go" program that I have incorporated into my workshops ever since then.

No artwork here today, just a slice of everyday life. Here's hoping some folks are enjoying a day off in honor of Presidents' Day.

The holiday weekend came in handy for us when we had a dishwasher emergency where dear hubby discovered it was leaking quite a bit. So, off to the local furniture store to pick out a pretty new Maytag for the kitchen during a sale going on for the weekend.

Now I know first-hand that a little dish washing by hand never hurt me as a kid, but you should hear my girls protest during this difficult time! LOL I was more than happy to tell them how I was an only who had the distinct displeasure of being the sole dishwasher in our household for many years.

Here is what the new one looks like:

Hopefully our girls' poor hands will survive the wait for this beauty to be delivered later this week!

We had a lovely Valentine's Day in our household. I hope you did too!

This is just a quick fun birthday party invitation I made at the request of my daughter for her Sweet 16 birthday party that she shared with two of her friends.

I hope this finds you all in the afterglow of a wonderful weekend full of reasons to be thankful. We thoroughly enjoyed having all of our children home for the Thanksgiving celebration. We did endure "The turkey incident," which will be the talk each Thanksgiving for years to come I am sure. LOL

With Black Friday and Super Saturday (is there even a name for that Saturday???), I made a great start on my Christmas shopping. We had a power outage that kept us from getting the really early start on Friday that we had initially planned. However, our shopping adventures still proved fruitful with lots of great savings too!

So, coming off of the excitement I felt learning this news, I really have to turn it back my good friends and loyal customers who continue to support me as their Close to My Heart Consultant. Thank you so very much for allowing me to share my great love of all of the scrapbooking and stamping supplies that CTMH has to offer. I appreciate you and your friendship too!

If you ask me the single greatest reward I have received in my 3 1/2 years with Close to My Heart, it would have to be the relationships I have with all of you folks who share your time with me and allow me to share with you.

On a lighter note, I wanted to be sure to share one of my favorite Pampered Chef recipes. I know how we all have some great food-centered family get-togethers to look forward in the next week. This particular recipe is called, "Taffy Apple Tartlets." It makes such a delicious little dessert that also allows for some portion control too.

Taffy Apple Tartlets - Pampered Chef

Ingredients:
* 1/4 cup dry roasted peanuts
* 2 large granny smith apples, peeled
* 3/4 cup butterscotch caramel sauce, divided
* 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
* 1 (15 ounce) package refrigerated pie crusts, softened according to package directions (2 crusts)
* 12 caramels, unwrapped

Directions:

Prep Time: 20 mins

Total Time: 34 mins

1. 1 Preheat oven to 400°F
2. 2 Chop peanuts using Food Chopper; set aside for later use.
3. 3 Cut peeled apples lengthwise into quarters using Utility Knife. Lay each quarter cut side down; angle knife, cut out and discard core. Coarsely chop apples with Food Chopper. Combine apples, 1/2 cup of the caramel sauce and flour in Classic Batter Bowl; mix well using Small Mix ?N Scraper®. Microwave on HIGH 5-6 minutes or until bubbling and thickened; stir and set aside.
4. 4 Meanwhile, unroll one pie crust onto lightly floured Cutting Board. Spacing closely together, cut 12 disks from crust using outer tube of Measure-All® Cup (nine around outside edge and three in center). Press disks into wells of Deluxe Mini-Muffin Pan using Mini-Tart Shaper, ruffling edges. Repeat with remaining crust.
5. 5 Cut caramels in half using Utility Knife; place one piece into each tart shell. Spoon apple mixture evenly into tart shells; sprinkle with peanuts. Bake 14-16 minutes or until edges of tartlets are golden brown. Remove tartlets from pan to Stackable Cooling Rack. Drizzle with remaining 1/4 cup caramel sauce. Serve warm.
6. 6 Cook's Tip: To easily drizzle caramel sauce over tartlets, place resealable plastic bag into Measure-All® Cup. Pour caramel into corner of bag. Twist top of bag; secure with Twixit! Clip. Cut corner off tip of bag to allow caramel to flow through.

Gathered together in a beautiful, serene wooded setting, about 20 of us enjoyed a weekend of papercrafting bliss mixed with fellowship too. The weather even cooperated to allow us an evening of worship at a campfire as an added treat.

My post today features a beautiful clear card created by my fellow swap group member, Robin Taylor. Robin does such lovely work. I am proud to share her work with you.

Robin's card features the new Olivia papers from Close to My Heart and the stamp set, Harvest Home. I am really enjoying the breathtaking views here in Michigan as we have the great pleasure to watch the leaves and other foliage show off their brilliant fall colors. This card sure reminds me of the beauty of fall.

In September, there was the exciting debut of a brand new how-to program for your scrapbooking (& cardmaking too!) called, "Magic." For this card I have incorporated one tip from the "Magic" book for the interactive element shown:

I incorporated some paper piecing, as well as some coloring with the blending pen and my ink pads. I also got a chance to use my new Sunset marker for Frosty's cute carrot nose.

The snowflakes and the snow below Frosty sparkle with the addition of some Prisma Glitter that I applied using my Glue Pen.

When you untie the Gold Satin Ribbon, the flap opens to reveal a family portrait to share with your lucky Christmas card recipients. Won't they be pleasantly surprised!?!
